In order to provide good apple yield forecast services and ensure the accuracy and effectiveness of the forecast model, technicians from the Agricultural Remote Sensing and Economic Crop Meteorological Service Center of Shaanxi Province went to 17 designated orchards in the main apple producing areas of Yan'an and Weibei for 4 days to carry out apple growth surveys and Phenological observation.

During the investigation, the technicians carefully recorded the amount of fruit hanging from the fixed fruit tree, counted and measured the growth of the fruit, picked fruit samples from different directions as a reference, and performed a simple analysis of the orchard management level, tree vigor, growth status, and orchard soil moisture. At the same time, they actively communicate with local agricultural technicians and fruit farmers to understand the occurrence and impact of meteorological disasters and diseases and insect pests, so as to obtain reliable investigation basis for the development of various services such as apple output forecasts in the province.

It is reported that Shaanxi’s apple trend production forecast has always been the key task of the Shaanxi Meteorological Bureau for agricultural meteorology services. The forecast conclusions are based on the statistical model established based on the climate background, climate forecasts and field data of the orchard, and are formulated as early as possible for the province’s fruit industry management departments.
