Experience:
I have been involved in the quality and authenticity of fruit juices and beverages for over 30 years, originally at Cadbury Schweppes but more recently at Eurofins. I have been involved with the IFU since 1990, when I joined the analytical commission, as a new representative for the UK. Since then I have served in a number of positions within IFU. During the time I have been involved in the development and standardisation of methods of analysis for fruit juices and beverages.
As president of the Analytical Commission (AC) I participated in the final Codex task force meeting set up for the development of the fruit juice standard and progressed the adoption of the IFU methods thought the Codex methods of analysis and sampling committee in 2005. I have subsequently attended this meeting on a regular basis on behalf of IFU, when there were topics relevant to our organisation.
I also attend two other Codex committees on behalf of IFU pesticides (CCPR) & contaminants (CCCF). I have also attended the Food additives committee too. I have just taken over as President of Legislation Commission, due to the previous incumbent leaving the fruit juice industry.
I have been a regular contributor at IFU roadshows, technical workshops and the Juice summit and at AOAC annual meetings in the States. In my general activities, outside IFU, I have highlighted the work of the IFU and the MAC in particular. In March 2019, at the IFU technical workshop in Greece, I received the “Commission Excellence” award in recognition of all the work I have done for the IFU MAC over the years.
As vice chair and now chair of the AIJN code of practice expert group, I have been closely involved in setting quality standards for the European juice Industry for 17 years. I am also a well know expert in the field of fruit juices in many regions of the work and have presented papers at a number of International meetings in the China, the US, Gulf States, Australia, New Zealand and Taiwan.
