The main reasons for the decrease in the amount of flowers in Jiaodong, especially Weihai this year:

1. In August 2020, the overcast and rainy weather is obviously more than that of the same period of normal year. Excessive rainfall, low temperature, insufficient light, and reduced light and products have seriously affected the differentiation of flower buds.

2. Last year's apple output was generally high. The apple output increased by more than 20% compared to 2019. The load was too large, and the picking was late, the tree body nutrients were excessively consumed, resulting in malnutrition of flower bud differentiation.

3. Continuous rain, low temperature, and high humidity caused disease aggravation. Inadequate control in some orchards resulted in serious early leaf fall. In some orchards, a large number of leaves began to fall in September, and autumn flowering occurred, resulting in weak tree body and poor differentiation of flower buds.

4. Excessive rainfall causes excessive soil nutrient loss and excessive growth of branches.

Based on the above-mentioned current situation, the following measures are recommended:

1. In areas with insufficient flower quantity (Weihai is in the blooming season of Fuji and encounters continuous rainy weather), it is even more necessary to strengthen pollination work, and do a good job of artificial pollination in time after the rain, and strive for late flowering and fruit setting.

2. Fuji apple trees with too few flowers are recommended to be quickly replanted with new varieties.

3. Strengthen fertilizer management in spring, and there will be more rains last winter and this spring, especially the continuous rainfall in recent days, the soil nutrient loss is serious, pay attention to timely replenishment of fertilizers. Pay attention to the supplement of phosphorus and potassium fertilizers and middle and trace elements.

4. For apple trees with insufficient load this year, properly control the fertilizer and water, pay attention to strengthen summer pruning, rational use of growth regulators, and control the prosperous growth of the tree to lay a good foundation for next year.
